Axminster has many small and medium sized (SME) businesses in need of training and advice. In some cases, their whole future may depend on, for example, finding finance, developing a business plan or handling tricky HR issues. Others desperately need new skills to enable them to market their businesses effectively.


Chamber is exploring areas in which it may be able to assist, whether by signposting existing opportunities or by developing workshops that operate locally. BIP has provided tailored small business advice in Devon for 25 years. Much of it is free, funded by councils, government and European projects. You can get individual, bespoke support from highly experienced advisers at no cost to you. HEART OF THE SOUTH WEST GROWTH HUB


Heart of the South West Growth Hub Provides updates on latest Government and local business support. Currently it is flagging the Government’s ‘Help to Grow’ initiative which offers free and impartial online support for small and medium-sized businesses on how digital technology can boost business performance. Eligible businesses can also apply for a discount of up to 50% off the purchase of approved software from a range of leading technology suppliers, worth up to £5,000



LEARN DEVON


The Smart Skills project promoted locally by Learn Devon is focused on small and medium enterprises who can refer employees as a way in which to up-skill their workforce. It also assists those who are becoming unemployed to develop the skills that will help them find new jobs. Improving maths and English and developing basic digital skills are just part of a wider offering that includes customer service skills and dealing with customer complaints. View programme.
